  • Friesens donates

    ACF.FriesensDonation.WEBBill Penner, president of the Altona Community Foundation accepts a cheque for $986 from Harold Stoesz of Friesens Corporation. Friesens recently launched an “Employee-Directed Giving Program” through which each employee-owner votes for organizations they feel would benefit the most from charitable giving. The Altona Community Foundation was selected as one of their recipients. A contribution to the foundation lasts forever as the capital reserve is always left intact.

Committee members Warren Schroeder and Brenda Wiebe accept the contribution from Foundation Board Member Harv Kroeker. These funds were used for the construction o a new zamboni shed.

These funds were used to purchase infield clay and other materials to build the infield for Access Field.

    The Neubergthal Heritage Foundation was the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Altona Community Foundation. Board member Margruite Krahn accepts the contribution from Foundation Board Member Byron Loeppky. These funds were used to paint and replace shutters for the heritage building.

    The South Central Cancer Resource was the recipient of a $1,500. grant from the Altona Community Foundation. Clincial Coordinator Norma Hildebrand accepts the contribution from Foundation Board Member Darrell Friesen. These funds will be put towards the purchase of wigs for the South Central Cancer Resources.

    Altona Panthers was the recipient of a $2,000. grant from the Altona Community Foundation. The Panthers team accepts the contribution from Foundation Board Member Perry Batchelor. These funds will be put towards the purchase of new team uniforms for the Altona Panthers.

    The Altona Curling Club was the recipient of a $5,000. Grant from the Altona Community Foundation. Club President Al Friesen accepts the contribution from Foundation Board Member Byron Loeppky. These funds will be put towards the purchase for new dehumidifier for the Altona Curling Club.

  • Rhineland C.A.R.E Inc

    October 26, 2012

    The Rhineland C.A.R.E. Inc was the recipient of a $1,250 grant from the Altona Community Foundation. Executive Director of Rhineland C.A.R.E. Ann Kroeker accepts the contribution from Foundation Board Member John Teichroeb. The Rhineland C.A.R.E Inc provides the Senior & Palliative Care Program to the region and these funds will be used to purchase replacement office equipment for the Palliative Care program.

  • Gretna Senior Centre

    The Gretna Senior Centre was the recipient of a $1200 grant from the Altona Community Foundation. President of the Gretna Prairie Centre Mary Loewen accepts the contribution from Foundation Board member John Teichroeb. As the Gretna Senior Centre services as a meeting place the Senior Centre’s Board recognized the need for an upgraded PA system.

  • Altona Firefighters Contribute to ACF

    August 8, 2012

    Altona Fire Department member, Daryl Rempel, presents a cheque for $1,850 to ACF board rep, Chad Friesen.

    For the past several years, Altona’s Firefighters have held a ‘Boot Drive’ along the parade route at the Manitoba Sunflower Festival. Firefighters walk along the parade route and offer the public an opportunity to place a few dollars in a Firefighter’s boot. This annual effort has led to over $50,000 in donations to great causes like the Firefighters’ Burn Fund and many local projects.

    ACF is one of the beneficiaries of the 2012 Boot Drive. Thank you to the Altona Fire Department for this contribution.

  • Alzheimer Society Grant

    May 29, 2012

    The South Central Manitoba Region of the Alzheimer Society was the recipient of an $880 grant. She Coordinator Greta Loeppky accepts the contribution from foundation member Darrell Friesen. The grant will be going toward expanding their educational DVD collection. With this donation, their DVD collection will be larger and more up to date than even their head offices, and they are extremely grateful for that. The South Central Region covers the area between Emerson, Rosenort, Swan Lake and Killarney.

  • ACF Announces Spring 2012 Grants

    We are pleased to announce the recipients for the 2012 Spring Granting period ending April 30.  Total funds requested = $50,160, Total funds granted = $33,700.

    The successful recipients were:

    • Rosenfeld & District Skating Rink – Storage shed ($500)
    • South Central Cancer Resource – Wigs, travel expenses for volunteers ($1,500)
    • Field of Dreams – Phase 1 official sized diamond ($5,000)

  • Citizen of the Year Silent Auction a Huge Success

    More than 200 people attended the Chamber of Commerce – Citizen of the Year banquet on the May 3, 2012. ACF was honoured to take part in the evening by hosting a silent auction and raffle, raising over $4000 for the Operating Fund. Read More…

  • Youth in Philanthropy

    April 26, 2012

    During the 2016-17 school year, the W.C. Miller Collegiate Youth in Philanthropy group functioned as part of the school’s student council, and was supervised by teacher Laura Thiessen. In recent years, through fundraising efforts and contributions from the Altona Community Foundation, the YIP group had accumulated enough money in its account to grant $4,800 this year to community organizations supporting children and education. Following are the organizations they supported:

    Katie Cares – $1,500 – Katie’s Cottage is planning on building a safe walking path between the cottage and Boundary Trails Hospital, which would be beautified with benches and flowers.

    Altona Curling Club – $1,000 – to replace outdated junior curling equipment that is used by 60-100 junior curlers every year.

    Altona’s Build a Village Foundation – $1,300 – to help support more families in their journey to Altona.

    Youth for Christ Altona – $1,000 – to help purchase outdoor chairs, tables, and barbeque supplies to promote activities at the Station.
