Youth In Philanthropy

W.C. Miller Youth in Philanthropy (YIP)

The Altona Community Foundation and the Thomas Sill Foundation, together with W.C. Miller Collegiate, introduced the Youth in Philanthropy program in 2009 as a six-year seed program. The objective was to provide high school students a hands-on opportunity to manage, promote, and deliver a philanthropic program to encourage community action for students.

In 2016 the Altona Community Foundation entered into an understanding with the W.C. Miller student council ensuring sustainability of the YIP program into the future and established the Youth in Philanthropy Fund.

Each year the YIP committee at W.C. Miller Collegiate holds fundraisers with the amount raised matched by the Altona Community Foundation. The YIP committee encourages potential charities to apply and then decides how to allocate their grant funds. They present their recommendations to the Altona Community Foundation board for final approval.

Businesses and individuals can also choose to donate to YIP and receive a taxable donation receipt. Please indicate with your donation the funds are to go to the Youth in Philanthropy Fund.
